Our chocolate story…………
My name is CC and I am the owner of CC’s Chocolate Creations. A business which started almost by accident…………….
I have always been a self-confessed chocoholic but had never considered myself to be creative or talented with any food related items. Barely able to get a jelly to set I could never in my wildest dreams have imagined where the CC’s journey would take me.
Several years ago, my son and I visited a chocolate factory where he was lucky enough to make some chocolate on his own. One of the items came home with us in a mould. Once the chocolate was eaten, he wanted the mould refilled with more chocolate. So, if my son wanted more chocolate in the mould, I was going to put more chocolate in the mould! I set to work with my mass-produced chocolate bar and my microwave. I don’t believe I had ever attempted to melt chocolate before in my life and my inexperience and naivety became apparent when I removed my bowl from the microwave to find a blob of burnt chocolate! Never one to give up, I tried again and again until my son had something resembling edible chocolate in his mould.
Now at this point you would think I had done my motherly duty and that chapter would close but no………. ideas were spinning around my brain and I wanted to learn more.
About the same time, I was diagnosed as coeliac which means I must follow a gluten free diet. This was a shock to the system at the time as I discovered that although chocolate tends to be naturally gluten free the way it is mass produced makes it unsafe for a coeliac. Having now mastered the microwave I decided to try and make something for myself. Peppermint creams and caramel cups were first on my list and I tried again and again and again until I got it right.
The peppermint creams and caramel cups are two of our bestsellers at CC’s now and I still make them myself in the same way as I did at the very beginning. With love, passion and a determination to make them taste just right.
A passion had very quickly awoken, and I became almost obsessive about chocolate, processes, moulds and tasting…….
A friend convinced me to have a stall at a local open day to sell my chocolates. I went along not really expecting much and was very surprised to sell out very quickly. The feedback I got on my chocolate, the chocolate I had made, was overwhelming and certainly fired the passion within me.
I started a Facebook page and slowly but surely the business started to grow. With the feedback and support of a growing number of customers I started to believe in myself more and more. I became more creative and now I love creating unique novelty items and helping people capture life’s special moments with chocolate, it is the best feeling in the world.
The business soon began to take over my life. I was working 42 hours a week; I was a single mum and I was spending evenings once my son was in bed making chocolate in the kitchen at home.
The requests to attend events were becoming difficult to keep up with so I asked a couple of friends if they could help by attending the events and with that simple request the CC’s rep was born. We now have many reps working with us across the whole of the UK selling CC’s chocolate.
The business continued to grow, and I was able to reduce my hours to part-time. In March 2019 we opened the doors to our very own premises in Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire, Scotland.
We now host our own kids’ chocolate workshops, adult workshops, chocolate parties and more.
We recently won the Scottish Business Award for Best Creative Business in Ayrshire and are now through to the Scottish finals!!
Everything is still 100% gluten free and made by me. Interestingly most of my customers do not require a gluten free diet, in fact most of them are unaware that my business is 100% gluten free and I take this as the highest compliment there is. To me, it means I got it right.
I cannot wait to see what the next chapter is in our CC’s story and I hope you can join us on our exciting journey as we continue to capture life’s special moments with chocolate!
Go on, treat yourself…………. You so deserve it!!
